Reflection
As per my assignment, I'm here to reflect on the good 'ol days of 11U English. It was a pretty solid class, and I can honestly tell you that when I got my timetable for the first time and read "Brooks, K." under the heading of English, I was overly pleased with my good fortune, especially considering who I might have possibly received as a teacher instead (not naming any names...) Anyways, Ms. Brooks has been a solid teacher, and going through the course has actually really helped me to refine my English skills, most particularly my writing. When taking the "class" known as Future's Forum, I was never required to do any formal writing, and although I did learn a few good things with Mr. Lambert (surprising, I know), my essay/ formal writing skills and knowledge sort of rusted up while just sitting in the back of my mind and not being put to use. In contrast to this, Ms. Brooks' 11U English course was like a large vat of oil that I could dump over the rusty piece of work that was my writing skills. Going into 11U English from Mr. Lambert's lack of essay practice, I began the semester with many run-on sentences, over-complicated statements, awkward wordings and ideas that didn't exactly line up properly. The most difficult thing I would say that I've overcome in this course is my original lack of efficiency at organizing my ideas and formulating my thoughts into a proper structural format for an essay or paragraph. I also learned quite a good bit on human rights, and discovered the comparison paragraph format, which was brand-new to me. My vocabulary has increased, my ability to discern meaning from text has grown, and my overall proficiency at English based skills, including reading, writing, oral communication and media (with new things to me such as video making) have all increased under the careful instruction and supervision of Ms. Brooks in the Grade 11 University English course at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School, Room 045 (I think - I may be wrong there).
